Best AI Tools for NZ Businesses in 2026
AI tools are everywhere right now. The problem isn't finding them — it's knowing which ones are actually worth your time.
We work with NZ businesses every day, and these are the tools we recommend most. No fluff. Just what works.
AI Assistants
ChatGPT (OpenAI)
Best for: Writing, research, brainstorming, answering questions Cost: Free (basic) / $30/mo (Plus) / $200/mo (Pro) Who it's for: Everyone. If your team isn't using ChatGPT yet, they're behind.
Use it for drafting emails, summarising documents, writing job descriptions, creating social media posts, researching competitors. It's the Swiss army knife of AI.
Claude (Anthropic)
Best for: Long documents, detailed analysis, careful writing Cost: Free (basic) / $30/mo (Pro) Who it's for: Businesses that work with lots of documents — legal, finance, consulting.
Claude is excellent at reading and understanding long documents. Upload a 100-page contract and ask it questions. It's also better than ChatGPT at following detailed instructions.
Gemini (Google)
Best for: Research, Google Workspace integration Cost: Free / $30/mo (Advanced) Who it's for: Businesses already deep in the Google ecosystem.
Gemini plugs straight into Gmail, Docs, and Sheets. If your business runs on Google Workspace, this is the easiest AI to add to your workflow.
Perplexity
Best for: Research with sources Cost: Free / $30/mo (Pro) Who it's for: Anyone who needs AI-powered research with actual citations.
Unlike ChatGPT, Perplexity shows you where its answers come from. Great for market research, competitor analysis, and any time you need to trust the source.
Automation Tools
n8n
Best for: Complex workflow automation, self-hosted option Cost: Free (self-hosted) / from $20/mo (cloud) Who it's for: Businesses that want powerful automation and care about data staying in NZ.
Our go-to for serious automation. Read our full n8n guide →
Zapier
Best for: Simple automations, huge app library Cost: Free (basic) / from $29/mo Who it's for: Businesses that want quick, simple "if this then that" automations.
Zapier is the easiest automation tool to use. It connects to 6,000+ apps. The downside is it gets expensive quickly if you have lots of automations running.
Make
Best for: Visual automation builder, good value Cost: Free (basic) / from $10/mo Who it's for: Businesses that want more complex automations at a better price than Zapier.
Make is more powerful than Zapier and cheaper. The tradeoff is a slightly steeper learning curve.
Data & Analytics
Google Analytics 4
Best for: Website traffic and behaviour Cost: Free Who it's for: Every business with a website.
If you don't have GA4 set up on your website, do it today. It's free and tells you where your visitors come from, what they do, and where they drop off.
Power BI (Microsoft)
Best for: Business dashboards and reporting Cost: From $14/mo per user Who it's for: Businesses that want a single dashboard combining data from multiple sources.
Connect your CRM, accounting, website, and sales data into one dashboard. Stop building reports in spreadsheets.
Customer Support
Intercom
Best for: Live chat + AI chatbot on your website Cost: From $39/mo Who it's for: Businesses with a website that get customer enquiries.
Intercom combines live chat with AI. The AI handles common questions, and hands over to your team for the tricky stuff.
Productivity
Notion
Best for: Internal wiki, project management, documentation Cost: Free (basic) / from $12/mo per user Who it's for: Teams that need a central place for everything.
Notion with AI built in means you can write documents faster, summarise meeting notes, and find information across your workspace instantly.
How to Choose
Don't try to adopt everything at once. Start with:
- ChatGPT or Claude — get your team using an AI assistant daily
- One automation — pick the most painful repetitive task and automate it
- Google Analytics — make sure you know what's happening on your website
Then build from there.
